Handmade Ornaments With Book Pages

by Kristen Leave a Comment

Ornaments aren’t just for Christmas.  You can use ornaments year-round to decorate your home for each season, or holiday.  And even if you think that ornaments are only for Christmas, that doesn’t mean that you can’t make ornaments all year.  Make a batch with the kids and put them away until Christmas when you can put them on your tree, or give them away as gifts.

This ornament tutorial shows you how to make Christmas ornaments using pages from an old book.  Add some food coloring to the mod podge and you can create colorful ornaments for any season.  And if you don’t want to use an old book, you could use a magazine, comic book, newspaper or greeting card for this decoupage project.

Kids will enjoy helping to make this DIY nightlight.  This paper mache craft is so much fun and the finished product will have them excited to turn out the lights.

With just a few supplies needed, a handmade nightlight is fun and affordable.  The tutorial shows you how to make a star shaped nightlight, but you could do any shape you’d like.

This idea would also be pretty for a holiday decoration or luminary.  Whether it’s Christmas, Easter, Halloween, or a dinner party, your mantel or buffet table will have an extra pop with lighting from a paper mache luminary.

by Kristen Leave a Comment

The sun is out and it’s a beautiful Spring day in Boston today.  So I figured that it’s only fitting that I highlight a fun springtime craft that’s perfect for little kids.

This project lets the kids get dirty, which of course is what they love to do anyway.  And if the weather is nice enough to be outdoors, then you won’t have to worry if you make a mess.  Use the blossoming trees, shrubs and gardens as inspiration for creating this adorable finger painted tree.

There’s nothing quite like coloring Easter eggs.  For many kids, dying Easter eggs is an annual tradition and a fun way to celebrate the joy of the holiday and Spring.

Do you usually dye your eggs solid colors?  See how Heidi Klum goes all out to decorate eggs.  From marbleizing eggs and adding some bling, there are lots of creative ways to color and decorate Easter eggs.  This is a great craft to do with the kids.
