How to Make Flubber With the Kids

by Kristen Leave a Comment

If your kids love playing with Play Dough or clay, then they’ll love flubber.  One of the great things about making flubber is that it’s not just a fun craft project for the kids, but it’s also a mini-science lesson.  Kids will ooh and ahh as they watch the mixture come together and transform from a liquid to a solid.

The recipe for flubber is easy.  You’ll have 2 bowls of ingredients that you will then combine to make the flubber.

Bowl #1:

1 cup of white glue

3/4 cup warm water

food coloring

–Stir to combine

Bowl #2:

1/2 cup warm water

2 teaspooons Borax

–Stir to combine and dissolve Borax

Pour bowl #1 into bowl #2 and watch the flubber magic begin.  Here’s a video to show it to you in action.

How to Make Flubber

Let the kids mix-up the flubber with their hands.  That’s what makes this craft fun for kids.  They get to get their hands dirty!  Store the flubber in an air-tight container and you’ll be able to enjoy playing with it again and again.

How to Crochet a Headband

by Kristen 1 Comment

Headbands are a fun gift to crochet for a new baby, teen, or adult.  All you have to do is adjust the length and width to fit a baby or adult.  These headbands are easy to make and you can whip one up in no time at all.

This tutorial takes you through the whole process and I like that it goes at a comfortable pace.  If you’ve never crocheted a hairband, or headband, then I think this tutorial is a great way to learn.  Crochet a bunch in a variety of colors and you’ll have a headband to match any outfit.

You can crochet a plain headband, or dress it up with a button and interchangeable flower.  Here’s the tutorial for making the crochet flower to add to the headband.  I think that these are particularly cute for young girls.

This is part 1 in the series and it shows you how to complete the first layer of the flower.  For some people, this may be all you need.  I’ve posted all 3 videos for this tutorial in the How to Crochet a Flower article.

How to Crochet a Flower

by Kristen 2 Comments

A crocheted flower is the perfect accent piece for a headband, bag, or gift wrapping.  This tutorial shows you how to crochet a flower with ease.  The video ties-in to the How to Crochet a Headband article, but I wanted to list this tutorial separately since these crocheted flowers are perfect for more than just a headband.

What I like about these videos is that she takes you from start to finish.  This means that she had to break-out the tutorial over 3 videos, but each one is only 5-10 minutes which is a great length and she goes at a pace that I think is easy to follow.

Handmade Ornaments With Book Pages

by Kristen Leave a Comment

Ornaments aren’t just for Christmas.  You can use ornaments year-round to decorate your home for each season, or holiday.  And even if you think that ornaments are only for Christmas, that doesn’t mean that you can’t make ornaments all year.  Make a batch with the kids and put them away until Christmas when you can put them on your tree, or give them away as gifts.

This ornament tutorial shows you how to make Christmas ornaments using pages from an old book.  Add some food coloring to the mod podge and you can create colorful ornaments for any season.  And if you don’t want to use an old book, you could use a magazine, comic book, newspaper or greeting card for this decoupage project.

DIY Mosaic Painted Mason Jar Lanterns

by Kristen Leave a Comment

A DIY lantern is perfect for outdoor fun and entertaining this summer.  Learn how to take a simple mason jar and paint it with a mosaic pattern to create a colorful lantern that will look beautiful against the glow of a candle.

This tutorial shows you how to paint glass to get a mosaic design.  Add a beaded handle and you can hang these lanterns on a hanger.

If you don’t like the mosaic pattern, just use the same techniques shown in the video and use them to make a painted lantern that matches your style.

Painting on Glass DVD Step-by-Step Guide

All you need to make these beautiful lanterns are some mason jars (aka jam jars), some paint and brushes.
